Energy Efficient Clay Brick (EECB)

The Energy Efficient Clay Brick (EECB) project aims to ensure environmental sustainability by seeking economic solutions to increased energy efficiency and lower greenhouse gas emissions in the South African clay brick sector.

The EECB Project represents Phase II of the 4-year pilot Vertical Shaft Brick Kiln (VSBK) Project in South Africa, in a shift towards a market development approach that facilitates energy efficient production practices, capacity building, knowledge-sharing throughout the Clay Brick market system.

Funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), as part of their Global Climate Change Programme, the EECB Project seeks to foster green and sustainable transformation in the Clay Brick sector through strategically targeted interventions that support improved energy efficiency and reduced emissions.

The Project aims to address sector constraints within both the enabling environment, as well as the demand levels of the market system.

The planning and implementation of the Project is undertaken by the Swisscontact (Swiss Foundation for Technical Co-operation), with the support of a specialist Project Facilitation Unit, made up of a team of industry experts.
