Sensemaking Update: July 2010

This Sense-making Update comes as we are nearing the halfway mark of the year. This means that we should by now be developing quite a good picture of what this year holds.

At this point it is evident that there is an improving trend in both BPP and BC, at least as far as CURRENT VALUES are concerned, which of course includes the effect of inflation. It is similar, although not as pronounced in real (m2 or numbers) terms.

After the World Cup

Cranmix (7).jpgThe Soccer World Cup has come and almost gone and our best expectations have been exceeded. Mnr. Pravin Gordhan, Minister of Finance, estimates that the tournament brought in R38 Billion, about the same amount as South Africa spent on infrastructure, security and transport. However it is evident that the Construction industry has lost momentum and cannot sustain the high level of activity achieved since 2006.
