SA introduces “green” brick making technology

South Africa is the first country on the African continent to adopt environmentally friendly brick making technology. The Vertical Shaft Brick Kiln Project (VSBK), funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), is being launched in November 2009.

Reportback on the Atmospheric Licensing Regime

Marine Naudè, HSE Manager at Ocon Brick reports that the following issues were discussed by Peter Lukey at the recent workshop on the Atmospheric Licensing Regime presented by DEAT on 15 October 2009.

Clay Brick member companies must take note that the APPA act will officially fall away on 1 January 2010. The new AQA act will officially commence on 1 January 2010. All industries listed in the Minimum Standards of Emissions will have to apply for an Air Emissions license - the application must be handed in by 31 March 2010.
